Emotion and Math

"We cannot solve our problems with the samethinking we used when we created them."

- Albert Einstein

Sometimes I want to run back to my words. To rearrange them and deconstruct them so they make sense. Yesterday I wrote a blog post about women being in power, and today I woke up with knots in my stomach. There is no easy duality to this issue, because the issue is not contingent on what gender is in power. Gender is fluid. Our masculinity and femininity is learnt.

Women are associated with the feminine energy, but this does not mean that all women are feminine. When I say women need to be in power, I am saying that the emotional mind associated with how we raise our women needs to be incorporated in the current system. A system of which is highly masculine, and coincidentally dominated by males as we walk up the corporate ladder. I don't think putting a women in power would magically solve all of the problems, but I do think that a woman or man with a feminine, emotional viewpoint is necessary for a sustainable future.

The rational mind has ruled for a very long period of time dating all the way back to Aristotle. Without delving too far into history, it seems that we are approaching a time where the feminine mind is necessary. The rational mind organizes the world, while the feminine mind gives it meaning. Unfortunately, we raise our boys into the rational mind, and our girls into the emotional mind. This dichotomy has created a power struggle where the voice that women have been taught to be true, is not valued or heard.

When we make the struggle "men vs. women," we don't allow room for the "men plus women." We split power unevenly, and instead of working together, we end up working separately.

The world we have now is beautiful. Humanity has advanced in ways that are nearly miraculous. We are a part of the system, with the ability to contemplate our role within it. While we continue to use our rational mind for action and to be an active part of the system, we need to harness the emotional mind to learn motivates our actions. We need to couple science and spirituality. Emotion and math. The outer world with our individual inner worlds.

It is time to use the power that our women have been taught, and to teach men our power. To learn from each other, and to grow with each other even if it means slowing down. The duality of men and women, male and female, feminine and masculine needs to be abolished. Our future lies in a synthesis. The masculine AND the feminine. A re-definition of power of what holds value in our life, and then how to share that with the greater good.

It is time for the emotional mind to check the power of the rational mind. I don't care if it is a man or woman who steps up to the plate, but the feminine energy needs to be heard. The energy that moves cyclically, not linear. The energy that gives time for birth, death, growth, and renewal. The energy that balances and replenishes and coexists with everything else.
